Hey there, folks! Pull up a chair—you won’t want to miss this one. Remember that disjointed basement I’ve been blathering on about? You know, the one that was an afterthought in design rather than a part of my home? Well, hold onto your hats because—drum roll, please—my basement refresh is finally complete! And what a journey it has been.
I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to finally share the fruits of this labor—surprises, hiccups, triumphs, and all. So brace yourselves; we’re going on a deep dive into this basement journey, and I promise it will be worth every word you read.
First things first, remember the old, dated fireplace and rustic barn doors? We transformed them to have a more contemporary look and feel. The fireplace feels clean and fresh, and the new metal and glass doors add a cool vibe to the room. What’s behind those doors, you ask? Our completely uninviting workout room. Don’t worry. It’s on the docket for its refresh later this year.
Humorous art adds some fun to the space and helps to create a relaxing atmosphere.
We filled the significant empty portion of the room with a contemporary ping pong table that has already provided hours of entertainment for family and friends. We put furniture moving coasters underneath the legs of the ping pong table. Now, the table can be easily slid out of the way for an active basketball game on the mini basketball hoop.
This area was finished with a custom table designed to fit the sofa’s length. It provides extra seating for those waiting a turn for ping pong while also supplying a handy place to sit while watching TV, eating a snack, or working on a laptop. We had the table legs custom-built by Hudson Valley Leg Co. on Etsy and built the top from oak to match the top of the counter in the kitchenette.
We added the beautiful Hattie media console from Arhaus to the TV area, which looks sophisticated and works with the room’s relaxed feel. We hid all the remotes and game console controllers in the decorative boxes in the console so the kids know where everything is, but things still look pretty.
A comfy seating area is a must for movie-watching. This oversized sectional and chair and a half provide the perfect spot for binging a series, taking a nap, or snuggling with a good book on a cold Colorado day. The pillows make the sofa even more inviting and add pattern and color to the design.
Transforming this space into more than just an ordinary basement was an exhilarating journey! I’ve always said – every nook and cranny of your home should embody your personality and bring you joy, right? Ultimately, this basement refresh is not just about changing furniture or updating dated elements. It embodies thoughtfully combining elements that create a space to truly relax and feel at home. And I’d say we did a pretty good job! Wouldn’t you?
